This Searing Orange Paint Ups the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E’s Visual Wattage

Whatever your feelings are on Ford’s decision to graft its upcoming all-electric crossover SUV to the iconic Mustang‘s brand, you may be interested in knowing the 2021 Mustang Mach-E will now be available in this crazy bright orange color. Apparently, orange is a popular color on the real Mustang—you know, the gas-fed coupe and convertible models—so Ford has gone and added the hue to the Mach-E’s palette.
Cyber Orange Tri-Coat, as Ford calls it, indeed renders the somewhat tall Mach-E with a more exotic appearance. (We maintain that the electric SUV is best appreciated in person, where its powerful rear haunches, fastback roofline, and various cherry-picked Mustang styling cues come together far better than in photos.) Even though it’s not available on the Mustang, per se, Cyber Orange looks close enough to the ‘Stang’s slightly less tangy Twister Orange paint option (a $495 extra!) that we suspect most onlookers will never know there’s a difference.

The orange paint isn’t the only hue with Mustang overtones—Ford has also shown off the Mach-E in Grabber Blue, an ex-Mustang Shelby GT350 color. We should also point out that both Cyber Orange and Grabber Blue are only available on the sportier, 459-hp, all-wheel-drive Mustang Mach-E GT model. (Final official power figures are forthcoming, but Ford has furnished estimates, and leaked information suggests those are conservative.)

So, what have we learned? Based on paint color availability alone, and having yet to drive the Mach-E ourselves, we can confirm the EV’s Mustang connection runs at least skin deep—provided you pre-order the GT in one of its two most ‘Stangy colors. A true evaluation of the Mach-E’s adherence to (and impact on) the Mustang’s performance legacy will have to wait until we get behind the crossover‘s wheel. Originally expected to arrive by year’s end, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E might launch later than anticipated thanks to the impact of the coronavirus crisis on the model’s development and associated factory preparations. The post This Searing Orange Paint Ups the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E’s Visual Wattage appeared first on MotorTrend.
